Car breaks telephone pole in half and sends one to hospital

 January 20, 2011

pIn the late night hours on Wednesday January 19th Engine Company 1 and Rescue Station 1 were toned out for a single vehicle accident on McKinney Boulevardrt. 205. Engine 15 quickly responded bringing Chief 1 with a crew of three. Utility 1 got out a few moments later with a crew of two. Once on scene Chief 1 established quotMcKinney Boulevard Commandquot and shut both lanes of the road down. One vehicle had come to rest in a small ditch after apparently running into a telephone pole and breaking it in half. Luckily no lines fell onto the car or onto the ground. Crews worked to get the driver from the vehicle while other crews attended to the passenger who complained of no serious injuries. Once removed from the vehicle the driver was loaded aboard the medic unit and Transported to Mary Washington Hospital. Crews from Engine Company 1 remained on scene for approximately 30 minutes waiting for Power Company personnel to arrive to replace the broken telephone pole and rerun wires to the poles. Thank you to all agencies that responded to the call and helped out while on scene.p
