pIn the morning hours of Tuesday January 18th Engine Company 1 was dispatched to assist Engine Company 4 and Medic 1 with an accident on Berry Farm Lane. The vehicle had apparently lost traction on a patch of ice and slid down and embankment into a nearby pond and was completely submerged under water. Once on scene units from Engine Company 1 donned wetsuits and went in the water to attempt to get the patient out of the car with crews from Engine Company 4 giving support from Boat 4. Numerous amounts of units continued to arrive while crews worked fast to get the driver out of the vehicle and out of the freezing water. After one of the windows to the passenger compartment had been broken open crews were able to remove and pass off the patient to the awaiting medic units. The patient was then quickly transported to Mary Washington Hospital.nbspCrews remained on scene to be checked out themselves for any injuries or any signs of hypothermia. Thanknbspyounbspto all units that responded to the call and helped remove the patient in a timely manner.p
